Disheartened & Scared: Drake's Emotional Response to Latest Killing of Black Man by Police + Murder Videos

Drake in tears

Late on Wednesday, July 6, Canadian-born U.S rapper, Drake, said he simply couldn’t keep his silence any longer, and needed to speak about his 'second home' - America, following the police shooting of a 37-year-old father, Alton Sterling, which sparked up an outrage worldwide.

Drake joined other entertainers including, The Game, Lecrae, Chuck D, Talib Kweli, Tyga, who have spoken out about the Sterling shooting, saying it's impossible to ignore the 'strained relationship' between black communities and law enforcement agents, which remains as 'strained' now as it was decades ago.

“When I saw the video of Alton Sterling being killed it left me feeling disheartened, emotional and truly scared. I woke up this morning with a strong need to say something.

“No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues,” he wrote before adding that he believes “open and honest dialogue” is the first step to addressing police violence against people of color.

When a second video surfaced online which allegedly shows that Sterling did not have a weapon in his hand, and was being restrained when he was shot at point-blank range in the chest, the reaction on social media was swift and heated.
