Late coach Stephen Keshi
Late Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi's family, has reportedly expressed displeasure over the unfulfilled promise by the Delta State Government to erect a befitting duplex in Asaba for the football legend before his sudden death.
According to The Sun, the immediate past governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan had in February 2013 during a reception for the victorious Super Eagles in that year’s African Cup of Nations, promised to build a duplex for Keshi and complete the Asaba Stadium which he named after the late coach.
Speaking with a correpondent, a family member who pressured anonymity lamented that it was a big disgrace that the government did not fulfill its pledge until the ace footballer died on June 7, 2016 at his private residence in Benin City, Edo State.
The family source disclosed that the only property the late Keshi had in Delta State was his duplex at his hometown of Illah, noting that the family members were excited when Uduaghan made the promise, but disillusioned, following the unfulfilled promise.
The source noted that Keshi was not the forceful type and as a gentleman he expected the government to have kept to its promise and was never persistent in his appeal to the government but merely hoped that the government will do as it promised.
“Stephen never bothered people in government, but expected them to fulfill the promise through their own initiative instead of pestering them. It is sad that the promise was not fulfilled in his lifetime but all the same, we are expecting that it should still be fulfilled,” the source said.
