Thinking About Breast Implant? Important Facts You Must Know First

If you are thinking about going under the knife to get implants, it’s important to have all the facts first.

From how much you have to fork over to recovery time, there’s lots to consider before taking the plunge.

Expert Harley Street cosmetic surgeon Dr. Max Marcellino, who has performed more than 8,000 successful operations, answers all your burning questions about boob jobs.

1. How much do boob jobs cost?
Breast augmentation with round implants costs £5,000 or £6,000 for teardrop implants.

2. Is it painful? What should you expect to feel like after the procedure?
If the implant is placed under the muscle, the patient may experience slight pain for two to three days.

We prescribe strong painkillers to make the experience as comfortable as possible. Implants placed under the mammary tissue are usually not painful.

3. Will they feel different to real breasts? If so, How?
Breast implants don’t usually feel any different to real breasts as the consistency is not noticeable unless the patient is slim and underweight.

4. Does having a boob job affect your ability to breast feed?
Breast augmentation does not usually affect your ability to breast feed but this cannot be guaranteed. Very large implants are most likely to interfere.

5. Do your nipples lose sensitivity?
Nipples can lose sensitivity after surgery but this is very rare.

6. What is the recovery time?
One week.

7. Will there be scarring? Do scars go away completely?
Patients can choose whether they would like the incision to be in the folds under the breasts or around the areola.

After nine months the scars can be very hard to notice but this depends on the patient’s skin type.

8. What’s the most popular cup size at the minute?
I have found that a D-cup is the most desirable breast size for my patients at the moment. Those opting for tear drop breast implants tend to achieve a fuller cup between C to D.

9. Can you wear a bra after having a boob job?
After undergoing breast augmentation, you must wear a sports bra for one month. You should not wear anything with underwire.

10. How long do you have to wait until you can wear a proper bra?
You can wear a wired bra four to six weeks after surgery.

11. What are the risks involved?
There is a chance of infection and ruptured implants but these are very uncommon. The chances are less than 1.5%. In any chance of complications, they will be rectified.

12. Are there certain types of implants that look more natural?
The teardrop implant is certainly the most natural in theory, but some breasts can look natural with round implants so it is up to surgeon to advice. The round moderate plus implants are very natural and also a popular choice.

13. How can you get bigger boobs without surgery?
There is no way of achieving larger breasts without surgery. However, fat injections can be used instead of implants.
