House of Reps members (Photo:File)
Members of the House of Representatives on Monday were forced to a closed door meeting following a rowdy session over fuel subsidy.
Drama started after speaker, Yakubu Dogara welcomed members to its special plenary on fuel price hike and removal of fuel subsidy. But, things took a dramatic turn immediately after prayers as the speaker moved for the admittance of Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, into the chamber.
This was greeted by a resounding No! No!! No!!! as members refused to allow him into the chamber.
The 'Nay' coming from the opposition lawmakers was however overruled by the speaker who quickly moved for the admittance of Dr Kachikwu.
But, this didn't go down well with some members waving the national flag started shouting ‘all we are saying save Nigeria’ while others started chanting ‘change'. The session turned rowdy as another set of lawmakers predominantly PDP Reps started shouting ‘shame’ ‘shame’.
All entreaties by the Minority Leader, Rep Leo Ogor, Majority Leader Rep Femi Gbajabiamila, Majority Whip, Rep Ado Doguwa and others to intervene fell on deaf ears forcing the House into a closed door meeting.
