Arrested suspects may have planned attacks in Italy, says interior minister
Italian police have arrested suspects who may have been planning attacks against targets in Italy, Interior MinisterAngelino Alfano said on Thursday.
Milan police said earlier they were carrying out a "vast anti-terrorism operation" in northern Italy aimed at preventing two people from leaving the country to join Islamic State in Syria orIraq.
Speaking in a television interview with Canale 5, Alfano said those arrested "had very nasty intentions towards our country" and may have been considering attacks.
Milan police will hold a news conference at 0930 GMT to give details of the arrests.
