A jealous lover has stabbed a mother-of-three to death in front of her children as she cried out 'I love you', just moments after he killed his new girlfriend, it is claimed.

According to Dailymail, the man killed Jodie Betteridge, 30, and Lynne Freeman, 46, in separate attacks just yards apart in Redcar, Teesside, on Wednesday night.

It was gathered that Ms Betteridge had split up from the suspect just months ago. She was attacked on the doorstep of her home minutes after Ms Freeman was fatally hurt at her nearby bungalow.

Police arrested a 34-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of two counts of murder and today magistrates granted detectives more time to question him.

One of Ms Betteridge's neighbours told The Sun: 'She was wearing a blue dressing gown and screaming, "I still love you",
'There was blood everywhere. He stabbed her about ten times.'

Her mother, Marina, 49, from Middlesbrough, said Ms Betteridge had split up from her boyfriend a few months ago after 10 years together.

'She was a beautiful woman and a brilliant mother,' she said.

A white forensic tent was put up outside Ms Betteridge's modern terraced house in Byland Close, less than a mile away from the first scene where Ms Freeman was attacked, and blood could be seen dripping from the handle of the door.

It is believed the suspect had been living with Ms Freeman prior to the womens' deaths.

Police had received their first call at around 8.45pm on Wednesday night and rushed to Ms Freeman's home on Mapleton Crescent in the seaside town.

Then, at 8.52pm, police received a second report to say that a woman was being violently assaulted on nearby Byland Close - where Ms Betteridge lived.

Both women suffered serious injuries and died.

The arrested man was still being questioned this afternoon.

Police declined to say whether or not it was a domestic incident, and did not give any indication of what age the women were.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: 'Any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incidents is asked to contact Cleveland..."
